Why train
Why train Adult BJJ
Adult Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at Flow State is for complete beginners and experienced members alike — a practical martial art with room to grow.
Confidence
Learn practical skills in a structured environment — each session builds on the last, at a pace that suits you.
Fitness
Training builds strength, mobility and cardio as you go. You do not need to be fit before you start.
Problem solving
BJJ is a living puzzle. Technique, timing and position give you clear goals to work on every class.
Discipline
A regular training routine and a focus on fundamentals support steady, long-term progress.
Welcoming community
Train with adults of all experience levels. Coaches and teammates help newcomers settle in.
Formats
Gi vs No-Gi
Both formats appear on the weekly timetable. Many students train both — coaches can help you choose where to start.
Gi
Gi classes use the traditional uniform. Grips on the jacket and collar shape the game — a strong foundation for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
No-Gi
No-gi is grappling in rash guards and shorts, without jacket grips. Sessions run faster-paced; many members train both.
In class
Typical class structure
Sessions follow a clear rhythm. Intensity is managed by coaches — especially for first visits — so you can focus on learning.
Warm-up
You settle into the room with the group — light movement so everyone is ready to train.
Technique
A coach demonstrates the positions and details for the session, with time to ask questions.
Drilling
You practise with a partner at a controlled pace so the movement starts to feel familiar.
Live rolling (where appropriate)
Later in class, sparring may be introduced when coaches judge it suitable for the group and your level. Beginners are guided carefully.
Questions
Class ends with space to clarify details, check what to bring next time, and plan your next session.
