Structured intake
Flow State Foundations is a beginner-only no-gi academy — six Tuesday evening sessions, a small intake, and a training kit included. It sits alongside the free trial week as another way to start.
First class
A clear welcome, a shared warm-up, and fundamentals practiced at a pace that suits you.
You'll be welcomed by a coach and shown where to put your kit — ask anything before you start.
You'll warm up with the class so you settle into the room at a comfortable pace.
You'll work through fundamentals and drilling with a partner at a pace that suits you.
Preparation
Keep it simple for your first visit. The team will explain anything else you need for gi and no-gi classes.
Shorts or joggers and a t-shirt or rash guard — anything you can move in.

Jake is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt under Combat Base and leads the academy's technical direction. Known for calm, fundamentals-focused coaching, he helps beginners and experienced grapplers thrive. He competes regularly at a high level, including on Polaris Pro.

Gi Coach
Alex is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt under Combat Base and a Gi coach at Flow State. His detailed technical coaching draws on competing at the highest level, including on Polaris. He helps members develop effective techniques for competition and everyday training.

Co-Founder · Wrestling Coach
Danny is Co-Founder of Flow State and a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu brown belt under Head Coach Jake Goldthorpe. As the Wrestling for BJJ coach, he focuses on takedowns, positional control and pressure. His practical coaching suits beginners and experienced grapplers alike.

Co-Founder · Gi & No-Gi Coach
Glyn is Co-Founder of Flow State and a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu brown belt under Head Coach Jake Goldthorpe. He coaches Gi and No-Gi with a patient, clear teaching style. A dedicated competitor, he earned a podium finish at the IBJJF European Championship.
